Protein:

Seafood
Seafood is an excellent source of protein because it’s usually low in fat. Fish such as salmon is a little higher in fat, but it is the heart-healthy kind: omega-3 fatty acids.

White-Meat Poultry
Stick to the white meat of poultry for excellent, lean protein. Dark meat is a little higher in fat. The skin is loaded with saturated fat, so remove skin before cooking.

Milk, Cheese, and Yogurt
Not only are dairy foods — like milk, cheese, and yogurt — excellent sources of protein but they also contain valuable calcium, and many are fortified with vitamin D. Choose skim or low fat dairy to keep bones and teeth strong and prevent osteoporosis.

Eggs
Eggs are one of the least expensive forms of protein. The American Heart Association says normal healthy adults can safely enjoy an egg a day.

Beans
One-half cup of beans contains as much protein as an ounce of broiled steak. Plus, these nutritious nuggets are loaded with fiber to keep you feeling full for hours.

Pork Tenderloin
This great and versatile white meat is 31% leaner than 20 years ago.

Soy
Fifty grams of soy protein daily can help lower cholesterol about 3%. Eating soy protein instead of sources of protein higher in fat — along with a healthy diet — can be heart healthy.

Lean Beef
Lean beef has only one more gram of saturated fat than a skinless chicken breast. Lean beef is also an excellent source of zinc, iron, and vitamin B12.

Protein on the Go
Grab a meal replacement drink, cereal bar, or energy bar. Check the label to be sure the product contains at least six grams of protein and is low in sugar and fat.

Protein at Breakfast
Research shows that including a source of protein like an egg or Greek yogurt at breakfast along with a high fiber grain like whole wheat toast can help you feel full longer and eat less throughout the day.

Shoaib Mansoor has done a great job again by producing the movie “Bol”. I found this movie much better then his previous production “Khada Kay Liye”.

I will rate this movie with 4 starts and The Best Movie In Pakistan Film History.
This movie has very strong and sensitive story/plot. I don’t want to give much detail about the movie, but will recommend that you don’t see this movie with your elders such as parents. This movie has several sensitives issues and you may not get comfortable listing/watching those issue with your parents.
For those who enjoy Bollywood Masala movie, you may get disappointed as this move is more an ART movie then a commercial movie. Yeh, you will see Atif Aslam with his guitar and he has played his role very well, but this movie is not about music, dances or any other related glamor activity. This movie is to open eyes about common social issues.

In my opinion, this movie should go for an Oscar award and it deserve it.

The main character of this movie is Manzar Sehbai (Played Hakim Sahib/father) and he has done an awesome job. The movie’s plot/story goes around him and he has done an excellent job showing the “true man” of the what so called “Indo Pak Society”. You will find many of them around our society.

The other strong character of this movie is Shafqat Cheema. He has played his role very strong and very close to reality. I found Humaima Malick, Iman Ali and Mahira Khan have done a great job as well. After searching on the web, I noticed that one song showing Iman Ali was not part of the movie when I saw it in the theater. And I think movie is good without it.
Amr Kashmiri ….. I salute you for accepting such challenging role and doing a great job performing it. Not many will have courage to do what you have done to show the dark side of the society. Bravo!!!! .. Kudo!!! May Allah bless you …

You may or may not agree with the story of this movie. This movie has dark side of the society and not many people want to talk about these social issues. The movie is currently playing in following theaters and you may buy a DVD from Eros.

Assalam O Alikum to all -

Today is August 30th, 2011. Some of my Muslim friends are celebrating EID today and others, like me are fasting today. Many folks have mixed feelings and are very much confused about why we as Muslims are not celebrating EID on one day. Some ask that since we have such advanced technology, why we are not using it to determine the EID day, while others say that we should follow Saudi Arabia.
My goal of this post is to share my thoughts on this sensitive subject with hope that this post may give us better view of why there are so many differences. I am not a religious scholar nor am I a religious expert. I am just an average Muslim who seeks right guidance from Allah.

Following are four pieces of logic/reasons I have heard so far for each group’s justification of their claim of determining the start or Ramadan/Shawwal (EID). Let’s just look at the EID example.

1) Follow Saudi Arabia and if it is EID there, then it is our EID.
2) Follow Global Moon Sighting. If moon is sighed anywhere in the world, then it is EID.
3) Use calculation published by US Navy (http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.php). We can determine the first day of EID day for many years to come.
4) Follow Moon-sighting. Look out for crescent moon.

There might be some other reasons given by some groups but I am only aware of what I have listed above. Feel free to update me if I have missed anything. Let’s go through the above listedreasons one by one.

1) Follow Saudi Arabia and if it is EID there, then it is our EID.
This seems like a good reason. Saudi Arabia (Makkah) is the core place for the Muslim community and it makes sense to follow them. However with this choice, there are few other challenges.

1. If we follow start of each month based on moon sighting in Saudi Arabia, then what about each daily prayer? Can we follow/pray our Namaz when it is Fajar, Dhuhr, Asar,Maghrib, or Isha in Saudi Arabia? The timings for each of these prayers follow the sun’s location. I would like to remind you that there are about 7 plus methods of calculating local prayer times including University of Islamic Science, ISNA, Muslim World League, Umm al-Qura and many more including some custom calculations. We don’t see much any argument on daily prayer times and we follow whatever is printed in our prayer time schedules that we get from our local mosque. I guess if we decide to follow Saudi Arabia for start of each month that is calculated by sun/moon location, then we should do the same for daily prayers and pray Fajar when it is fajar in Saudia?
2. Now what about countries/regions that are east of Saudi Arabia? What should they do? They will not know when is EID declared by Saudi Arabia as their day starts before the day starts in Saudi Arabia. Should they follow a day after or change their day/night time according to Saudi Arabia?
2) Follow Global Moon Sighting. If moon is sighted anywhere in the world, then it is EID.
Same logic and same challenges as listed above for moon sighting in Saudi Arabia. Should we
follow our prayer timing according to whoever claim it is Fajar in the world? For example, if it is Fajar in Australia then we should start our Fajar Prayer? What about those who are praying Isha on the other side of the world, should Muslims around the world follow whatever prayer time it is now anywhere in the world? Who will be leading the prayer time calculation? Hmm… this does not make sense to me. The sun set or moon set timing are not equal around the globe due to axial tilt of the globe. so we can not claim if XYZ country has seen sun set or moon, then it is visible to rest of the world as well.

3) Use calculation published by US Navy (http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.php). We can determine the first day of EID day for many years to come.
This is one of the common methods adopted by many in North America. This helps to pre-determine any month in advance and helps us to manage our daily routine. The challenge I see with this is that there is no guarantee that these calculations are correct. These are calculated values based on formula. However, Allah can change rotation of Sun, Moon or any other planet at any time. We all may have heard of when Hazrat Bilal was asked not to say Fajar Azan and then people noticed that the Sun is not coming out. It was later determined that HazratBilal must say Fajar Azan. Allah is capable of changing rotation of earth, sun and moon at anytime.
The other note on the calculation is “Leap Year”. We all know that there are 365.242199 days in one year but we use 365 for easy calculation and then in order to adjust the remaining .24299 day, we add a day every 4 years known as “Leap Year”.
The other thing is that the definition of “new moon” is different between US NAVY and what is used for Islamic month calculations. You may visit http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/islamic.php for more information. US NAVY uses the “new moon” for the moon phase that crosses the SUN. However this moon may be 100% invisible, in other words completely dark. No crescent at all. On the other hand, the Islamic “new moon” is a crescent moon that should be at least 1% illuminated. It is very hard to spot 1% illumination however it is very easy to spot when it is 3% or 4%. Bottom line is that Islamic new moon should be a crescent moon and not a black disc as described by US Navy for their civil dates calculation.

Allow me to talk about talk about September 1752. You can read a lot about this on the google . I have listed the month of September 1752 for our reference here. Can you see the problem I see? You can reproduce this calendar on any UNIX machine if you have access. September 1752 is the month Britain switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. It is missing dates from 3 to 13th.

We are all aware of Day Light Saving, they are all based on calculation. Calculations are there to make our job easy but they are not 100% true or accurate.

4) Follow Moon Sighting. Look out for crescent moon.
This is what I think should be the accurate and proper way to determine each month. ChicagoHilal.org is doing a great job on this. You can read more about their procedure at http://www.chicagohilal.org/procedures/. We can use calculation method that will help us assist the current location of crescent moon and should try to sight the moon.

There are many tools available in these days that use the GPS devices to track calculated sighting of each planet. On the Iphone you can download “SkyView” free version that gives data of Sun and Moon by using the GPS.

To support my point , I am referring some Hadith from Bukhari on this subject. You can check them online at http://www.usc.edu/schools/college/crcc/engagement/resources/texts/muslim/hadith/bukhari/031.sbt.html.

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 124:

Narrated Ibn Umar: I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “When you see the crescent (of the month of Ramadan), start fasting, and when you see the crescent (of the month of Shawwal), stop fasting; and if the sky is overcast (and you can’t see It) then regard the crescent (month) of Ramadan (as of 30 days)”.

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 130:

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar:

Allah’s Apostle mentioned Ramadan and said, “Do not fast unless you see the crescent (of Ramadan), and do not give up fasting till you see the crescent (of Shawwal), but if the sky is overcast (if you cannot see it), then act on estimation (i.e. count Sha’ban as 30 days).”

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 133:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet or Abu-l-Qasim said, “Start fasting on seeing the crescent (of Ramadan), and give up fasting on seeing the crescent (of Shawwal), and if the sky is overcast (and you cannot see it), complete thirty days of Sha’ban.”

These are the three Verses (Ayat) in Quran where clear references are given of the people who were converted into monkeys and swines. These are the people who tried to be creative in their interpretations of Allah’s guidelines. Read Tafseers of these Suras to get more details around these punishments.

May Allah guide us all in the right path, the path of the righteous people and not of the path of those who earned Allah’s Anger, nor of those who went astray.

1: Sura Al-Baqara 2 Verse 65

Al-Baqara
And ye know of those of you who broke the Sabbath, how We said unto them: Be ye apes, despised and hated! (65)

Sura Al Maeda- 5 Verse 60

2: Al-Maeda
Say (O Muhammad SAW to the people of the Scripture): “Shall I inform you of something worse than that, regarding the recompense from Allâh: those who incurred the Curse of Allâh and His Wrath, those of whom (some) He transformed into monkeys and swines, those who worshipped Tâghût[] (false deities); such are worse in rank (on the Day of Resurrection in the Hell¬fire), and far more astray from the Right Path (in the life of this world).” (60)

Sura Al – Araf 7 Verse 166
فَلَمَّا عَتَوۡاْ عَن مَّا نُہُواْ عَنۡهُ قُلۡنَا لَهُمۡ كُونُواْ قِرَدَةً خَـٰسِـِٔينَ (١٦٦)
3: Al-Araf
So when they exceeded the limits of what they were prohibited, We said to them: “Be you monkeys, despised and rejected.” (166)

Here is what I got from one of my friend who loves cricket and is reason for me to create this blog.

——————————————————–

England vs India – Cricket world cup 2011

Was the match fixed? Former Australian bowler Shane Warne had twitted a day before with confidence that the match would be a tie. See below letter to editor appeared in today’s The News newspaper:

Thursday, March 03, 2011

Former test player Amir Sohail raised a very valid question about the thrilling encounter between India and England at Bangalore. Shane Warne Twitted a day before the match that it would end in a tie. The way India quickly lost wickets towards the end of its innings and the way England suddenly slowed down its chase all seemed very suspicious.

The ICC announced to enquire about a test match involving Pakistan after the mere publication of a newspaper report while it is completely silent in this case. Had it been Pakistans match, investigations would have been underway by now. It seems the ICC has got something against Pakistan while teams like India, England and Australia are above all laws.

Ahmed Mustafa Hashmi

Rawalpindi

My Opinion:

The reality of ICC’s needs to be recognized as biased, racist and prejudice in the game of cricket. Remember, India holds an enormous source of revenue for the ICC. With over a billion in population, India seems to be the country to please and invest in. You can rest assured that no matter what happens, ICC will not risk pointing any match-fixing allegations toward Indian players. Just make it evident how much the western countries are becoming boot-lickers to Indians, take a look at the ICC Staff below:

1. Chief Executive Officer of ICC – Haroon Lorgat (indian – South Africa)
2. President of ICC – Sharadchandra Govindrao Pawar (indian)
3. Chief Financial Officer – Kushal Das (indian)
4. Media Representative – Ravi Shastri (indian)
5. Audit Committee – Birendra Agarwal (indian)
6. Internal Auditor – Varinder Kohli (indian)
7. Anti-Corruption and Security Unit – Ravi Swami (indian)
8. Human Resources – Supriya Kamat Banerjee (indian)
9. Cricket Development Asia – Binaya Raj Pandey (indian)
10. Medical Committee – Dr. Anant Joshi (indian)
11. Women’s Cricket Asia – Shubhangi Kulkarni (indian)
12. Governance Committee – Shashank Manohar (indian)
13. Code of Conduct Committee – Goolam Vahanvati (indian)
14. Code of Conduct Committee – Stindar K Lal (indian – Canada)
15. Code of Conduct Committee – Sharad Rao (indian – Kenya)

Then of course, you also have the Corporate Alliances with ICC which fund plenty of money for advertising and so on. Of the 6 or 7 corporations which are sponsoring the ICC tournaments, championships and so on are india’s Hero Honda and Reliance. ICC is infested with “Endians.”

The team that plays better will win. My gut feeling says it could be be South Africa vs Pakistan in finals given Pak batsmen perform.
